PEYTON GULLYE

In 2018, Peyton was in the hospital in Atlanta recovering from bone marrow transplant #2 and facing a 0-5% prognosis after a diagnosis of Phenotype Acute Leukemia. CPWLF contacted Sloan Serpe, an All-American at UNC and a member of Team USA, who visited Peyton in the hospital. Casey followed up with a personal visit to Peyton before she was released from the hospital.

I can imagine that you guys do a lot of those visits but don’t always get to hear the rest of the story. Given that, I thought you’d really appreciate this picture of her which pretty well sums up her progress. She had some trial treatments along with her 2nd transplant and has miraculously been cancer-free for 13 months now. She returned back to school after a 1.5 year absence in August for her senior year. And she even made her return to the lacrosse field yesterday for the HS team. She is no longer the tenacious midfielder that she was when she started for the varsity team as a freshman, but she’s adjusting nicely to a ‘less mobile’ role as an attack player and even scored yesterday. And most importantly, she’s having a blast being out there again playing the sport she loves. I’m super proud of her, as you can imagine.

Also, you can pass along to Sloane Serpe (who also visited the hospital) that Peyton was just accepted into UNC, and we are making a trip over there at the end of next week for her first campus visit and possibly a basketball game. She wants to pursue something in the pediatric cancer field, so that’s a great option. Anyway, I wanted to pass this along and again say thanks for your tremendous support during our journey. What you guys do is amazing, as people often have no idea how far the little things go when facing uphill battles such as that.
