The foundation has applied this mission across as many lacrosse families as we can reach. By visiting players of lacrosse families in hospitals, rehab centers or their own homes, the CPWLF provides a tangible layer of support and encouragement on the player’s journey toward recovery. We provide a community hub to promote the awareness of good causes, to raise funds for those in need and to continue cheering our lungs out in support for lacrosse families throughout the recovery process.

Since graduating from Syracuse University, Powell spent his professional career traveling the world playing, teaching and spreading the game of lacrosse. He has represented several notable companies such as Reebok, Easton, Warrior, Toyota, SoBe, Nissan, Bud Light, Disney, Muscle Milk, Body by Jake, Dick’s and Gladiator. Casey endorses his own video game (Casey Powell Lacrosse 16,18), has hosted his own show on Sirius XM and has been a commentator for MSG Network, ESPN and CBS Sports Network.
Casey is an accomplished lacrosse player considered to be one of the sport’s best ever. In college, he was a four-time All American and two-time National Player of the Year. For 15 seasons, Powell played professionally for many teams and is only one of two players ever to be named MVP in both Major League Lacrosse and the National Lacrosse League.
He has been selected to play on four United States Men’s National teams and was Captain of Team USA in 2006, 2011 and 2015. He was selected to Lacrosse Magazine’s All Century team, MLL All Decade team, Upstate, North Country and National Hall of Fames. Casey held the position of lacrosse director for Disney Wide World of Sports and is currently a director for Team ONE lacrosse club, partner of Powell Lacrosse Company and founded a modified version of the game called SPEED Lacrosse. He resides in Chicago.

Jennifer Behan received her BA in biology/psychology from Wesleyan University. She was the creative director for CooperKatz and Co., a NYC public relations agency, where she led projects for companies such as ACNielsen, VNU, Nielsen Media Research, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Health, Volvo and Canon among many others. She is involved in several philanthropic ventures, and for the past ten years, she has channeled her Type-A personality into leading volunteer activities for her son’s school.
She enjoys golfing and chaired her club’s 9-hole golf league for three years, but her passion lies in helping kids and their families through CPWLF. Jennifer resides in the Chicago suburbs.

Gina Cugliari is the mother of Noah Hays (#NoahStrong), a 19-year-old lacrosse goalie who lost his 3-year battle to cancer on June 3rd, 2018. Gina has been a lacrosse mom to Noah since he started playing in third grade. During Noah’s 3-year journey, he received much love and support from the Casey Powell World Lacrosse Foundation, and it truly impacted him and his family. Noah’s family is committed to providing support to pediatric cancer patients and their families by delivering holiday gift bags to the Levine Children’s Hospital every year filled with gift cards and some of the items that brought Noah relief as he underwent treatment.
Gina, her husband, Joe, and Noah’s 2 older sisters, Kayla and Zoe, live in Charlotte, NC. Noah’s step-brother, Jeremy, and step-sister, Caitlyn, live in Michigan. The entire family is committed to carrying on Noah’s legacy through CPWLF. Gina is a Business Controls Specialist for Bank of America and is a big fan of the Carolina Panthers.

Deirdre McManus is the mother of Daniel (mightymcmanus) McManus, a 12-year-old lacrosse player who lost his 18-month, courageous battle to leukemia. Deirdre has been a lacrosse mom to her two sons, Colin and Danny, since they started playing lacrosse in second grade. During Danny’s 18-month battle, the McManus family received much love and support from the Casey Powell World Lacrosse Foundation. To honor Danny’s memory, Deirdre’s mission is pay it forward and support families of severely injured and/or sick lacrosse players in any way possible.
Deirdre, her husband, Fran, and her son, Colin, live in Armonk, NY. Deirdre is a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist and develops healthy school lunch menus for students throughout Westchester County, NY. Deirdre has had a life-long love of basketball and still plays a couple of times a month in a ladies’ league.

Living her “golden years” in Cazenovia, New York, Sue Powell is mom to Casey, Gretchen, Ryan, Mike and Mason. She graduated from Carthage Central School and later served as their school secretary. Sue has been married to her husband, Larry, for forty-six years.
In 1999, Sue was diagnosed with cancer and received chemotherapy and radiation in Rochester, NY at the Pluta Cancer Center, a division of Strong Memorial Hospital. She eventually became “cancer free.”
After more than twenty years of being a lacrosse mom, Sue wrote and published A Knock at My Heart, a memoir about everything Powell. She realized through writing her story that the little things are really big things.
Sue states, “Serving as an advisor for The Casey Powell World Lacrosse Foundation is something I feel very strongly about. I hope that I have the opportunity to meet and work with each of you and look forward to helping this worthy foundation. My grandmother taught me that if you feel an urge on your heart to do an act of kindness, go forth with that thought. So here I come.”

Jon Rubinstein is the father of cancer survivor Josh Rubinstein and has been an avid supporter of the CPWLF since 2017. He has been a lacrosse dad for more than 15 years and has been very much involved in his three sons’ lacrosse development. He was the 1983 New York State High School Golf Champion and played golf for the University of Kentucky. He has been a Special Agent for the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for the past 29 years.
Jon’s mission is to provide support to injured and sick lacrosse kids and their families who are so greatly affected by their circumstances. He plays a lot of golf and resides in Connecticut.

Josh Rubinstein is a senior at Trumbull High School in Trumbull, CT. He is a cancer survivor who was supported by the CPWLF. He has played lacrosse for over 12 years as an attackman for his high school team and several summer travel teams.
In July 2017, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Josh underwent many rounds of chemotherapy and spent over 200 days in the hospital. He received a Bone Marrow Transplant, also known as a Stem Cell Transplant, in November 2017 and has been in remission since. He currently coaches with the Trumbull HS lacrosse team and a summer travel lacrosse team and hopes to get back to playing the game in 2020.
Through CPWLF, Josh enjoys visiting and supporting kids who are battling cancer. He has been instrumental in reaching out to several CPWLF kids who are starting out in the cancer recovery process. Josh enjoys biology and hopes to study pre-med classes in college to one day be an Oncologist.

resources, lend a hand to each other and support each other emotionally. We connect new families with experienced families who have endured the same challenges. This initiative was born out of a need of parents to share, support and inspire each other.
Sue’s Circle is named after Casey’s mom, Sue Powell, a cancer survivor who has always been the backbone of everything Casey has accomplished. Sue has been the guiding light for Casey, and through CPWLF, we want to provide a guiding light to families just starting on their journey to recovery.

The Casey Powell World Lacrosse Foundation has been created to be the epi-center to connect support from the lacrosse community to players and families who desperately need the support.
