CASEY’S RISE

BY SUE POWELL

Casey’s rise from a small town in upstate New York to one of the most decorated lacrosse players in the country is truly a dream come true. His dream. Like other youngsters going after what they want, his journey was full of ups and downs, hard work and passion. Casey will tell you that he had some very personal lightbulb moments as he pursued his goal. These moments guided him along the way. He also learned many important lessons, such as how to lose, how to be a team player, how to be coachable, and most importantly, how to be grateful for the opportunities that came his way. He learned all of this, and sometimes he learned it the hard way. However, these important life lessons have stayed with him to this day. He will tell you that his success came from a combination of the principles and values that he grew up with. From a young age, Casey’s mission was, and I quote him, ” I want to be the best lacrosse player I can be.”

Fast forward to today, and you will find that Casey did become the best lacrosse player he could be. He now uses his accomplishments and strives to have a direct and personal connection with the younger players who have given him their trust and attention. He encourages others to believe in themselves.

Why am I telling you all this? Because I feel, as Casey does, that even in bad times when life is challenging you, you too, will have a lightbulb moment. In that moment, you will know to use whatever unique tools and abilities you have to get the very best results and take you farther than you ever dreamed you could go. You will see that you are capable of being the best you can be. It’s not about being better than another person, nor the best of a group. It’s about being the best YOU can be.

As the holidays approach, it’s a time for all of us to recharge our faith and find the courage to make an effort to live the best lives we can. Believe in yourself, and remember that each of us has the power to make adjustments. Happy holidays to all of you, and my prayer is that 2020 will bring joy to your life in every way.
